What is Basic First Aid Training
It is important to note that there is no Basic First Aid Training course recognized by Regulation 1101 and the WSIB in Ontario.
According to Regulation 1101, all workplaces in Ontario covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) must provide first aid training to their employees by a first aid company that is approved to supply first aid training in Ontario, like Holmes Medical Training.
The type of course required depends on the number of people working per shift at a workplace.
Holmes Medical Training offers 3 programs recognized by the the WSIB and province of Ontario:
Standard First Aid CPR Level C with AED training (SFA)
This course is required for any work site with 6 or more employees and is 13 hours in length
Emergency First Aid CPR Level C with AED training (EFA)
This course is required for any work site with less than 6 employees and is 6.5 hours in length
Basic Life Support (BLS) is a course specifically designed for health care professionals.
In conclusion, when choosing a first aid course for your business or yourself, ensure the course and the provider you are choosing are approved by the WSIB. Taking a WSIB approved first aid course with Holmes Medical Training will give you the knowledge, training and skills to save a life. At the end of the day, first aid is about people helping people, something we could do with a lot more of.
